EMWIS news flash: 7 water projects identified for the Union for the Mediterranean

Seven flagship projects for the Union for the Mediterranean in the water sector have been identified in the recommendations of the Mediterranean Committee of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG-Med)’s conference on the contribution of local and regional authorities to the water strategy of the Union for the Mediterranean, according to the latest news flash from the EU-funded SEMIDE/EMWIS project (November 2009 – n°75).

The newsletter leads with a report on the outcome of the UCLG-Med conference, held on 23 and 24 November 2009 in Lyon (France), on the water strategy of the Union for the Mediterranean, attended by more than 170 participants and which aimed at gathering local and regional authorities’ recommendations on the water strategy of the Union of the Mediterranean.   It also covers others topics in brief including the adoption of a challenging timetable and a first skeleton of the water strategy for the Mediterranean by the Water Expert Group (WEG) in Cairo, the Joint Egyptian-Dutch Water Conference “Towards the new Long Term Strategy for Water in the Mediterranean” message: coping with climate change is managing water for life, as well as the issues addressed at the seminar on water challenges and perspectives in the Mediterranean held from 12 to 14 November in Paris.   EMWIS/SEMIDE, funded by the EU’s Regional Programme, focuses on the exchange of information and knowledge in the water sector among and within the countries of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership.
